Electronic Monitoring Scotland
Electronic Monitoring offers a holistic approach to sentencing and can be used as a direct alternative to custody through use of a “Restriction of Liberty Order (RLO)” or used to support the reintegration and compliance of an individual back into society following a custodial sentence as a condition of Parole Licence.
An individual who becomes subject to Electronic Monitoring (Monitored Person) will have an “order” or “conditions” imposed upon them by an issuing authority such as the Scottish Courts, The Scottish Prison Service, The Parole Board for Scotland or The Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration. The order or conditions will dictate a curfew which the Monitored Person must comply with. G4S provides the equipment to evidence that an individual is complying with their curfew and reports any instances of non-compliance back to the relevant authority.
Whilst the current Electronic Monitoring service in Scotland, using radio frequency, continues to be an effective tool to aid rehabilitation and support desistance, legislation once commenced will allow the use of new order types and technologies. G4S are currently working closely with the Scottish Government and partner agencies with regards to rolling out a GPS pilot across Scotland for Home Detention Curfew (HDC) in the near future.
Electronic Monitoring remains an effective and flexible tool available to issuing authorities and Justice Social Work alike. Creating curfews to enable and assist the management of persons within the community, curfews can be tailored to be as individual as required.
