G4S plays a crucial role in improving road safety

Mobile speed cameras have become an increasingly common sight on Australia roads in recent years, and for good reason. These cameras are playing an important role in improving road safety and reducing the number of accidents and fatalities on our roads.

According to the Centre for Road Safety, speed is a contributing factor in around 40% of fatal crashes and 20% of serious injury crashes in New South Wales. In 2022, there were 202 fatalities on New South Wales roads, of which 78 were attributed to speed-related crashes.

Mobile speed cameras have been shown to be effective in reducing the number of speed-related crashes in New South Wales. The Centre for Road Safety reported that in the 2020-2021 financial year, mobile speed cameras detected over 1.3 million speeding offences in the state. The use of these cameras has been linked to a reduction in the number of fatal and serious injury crashes on New South Wales roads.

G4S is a leading provider of mobile speed cameras in Australia, including in New South Wales. Mobile speed cameras are not the only way that G4S are helping to improve road safety. In Victoria, G4S is responsible for transporting prisoners to and from court appearances, prisons, and other appointments. With over 129,333 kilometres travelled in April 2023 alone, we recognise the importance of winter driving safety to ensure our employees are well-trained and equipped to handle icy and wet conditions during the winter months.

In addition to safe driving practices, G4S employs a range of advanced technologies to improve safety on the roads. These include GPS tracking, real-time monitoring systems, and in-vehicle cameras that provide a detailed record of driver behaviour and vehicle performance. These tools help to ensure that drivers are following safe driving practices and that vehicles are well-maintained and equipped to handle challenging conditions.

Overall, the use of mobile speed cameras and the safe transport of prisoners are two important ways G4S are working to improve road safety across Australia.
