G4S VSOs enhance skills with defensive tactics training
Five Visitor Security Officers (VSOs) from G4S and two Department of Military Affairs Security Officers underwent a 40-hour program led by certified instructor Joey Terlaje. The officers received certificates after completing the training which covered control concepts, handcuffing, counter striking, restraint systems, weapons, and equipment training.
This initiative is part of Guam Visitor Bureau's (GVB) commitment to improving safety and security for tourists. G4S VSOs play a vital role in this effort, having transformed from "Hafa Adai spirit ambassadors" to fully trained security officers with CPR/AED and defensive tactical skills.
GVB established the Visitors Security Officer Corps in 2014 following the tragic death of a Korean tourist. The program's success is a result of collaboration between GVB, Guam Police Department, Guam Fire Department, Department of Public Works, Department of Parks and Recreation, G4S, Tamuning Mayor's Office, the Office of the Attorney General and senators. The programme will continue to provide defensive tactics training for all VSOs and other security personnel.
