G4S - Protect Yourself From Fraud
They often claim to provide investment opportunities, offer free reports, request personal details, or even suggest that there have been changes in the terms of your investment so money is owed.
These hoaxers will often pretend to be employees or representatives of G4S in order to present a more credible case to their targets. Therefore, it is hugely important to ensure that you protect yourself from becoming victim.
How to protect yourself
1. Reject unexpected offers
If you receive an email, letter or phone call asking you for money or personal details, please take extra steps to ensure that the request is legitimate. Always get the name of the person and organisation contacting you.
2. Check the Financial Services Register and the FCA Warning List
Use the Financial Services Register at www.fca.org.uk/firms/financial-services-register to ensure they are authorised. You can then use the details on the register to contact the firm.
If there are no contact details on the FS Register or if you are told that the current details are out of date you can contact the FCA Consumer Helpline on + 44 (0) 800 111 6768 or carry out a search on the FCA’s Warning List at https://www.fca.org.uk/scamsmart or https://www.fca.org.uk/scamsmart/about-fca-warning-list
3. Get Impartial Advice
Get impartial advice before investing – don’t use an advisor from the firm that contacted you.
Remember - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Please note that if you deal with an unauthorised firm, you would not be eligible to receive payment under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
The FCA also maintains a list of unauthorised overseas firms which are targeting, or have targeted, UK investors on its website. Any approach from such organisations should be reported to the FCA so that this list can be kept up-to-date and any other appropriate action can be considered.
You can report an unauthorised firm by contacting the FCA’s consumer helpline on 0800 111 6768 or through www.fca.org.uk/consumers/report-scam-unauthorised-firm
If you have lost money in a scam, contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or www.actionfraud.police.uk
It would also be helpful if you could also inform Link Asset Services (formerly Capita Asset Services), our Registrars on +44 (0)871 664 0300 or via email at enquiries@linkgroup.co.uk
