G4S Custodial and Detention Services, the leading private provider of prison services in the UK, has today announced the appointment of Dave Thompson as new director of HMP Altcourse near Liverpool.

Dave Thompson assumes control of the prison after serving as director of HMP Rye Hill, the Category ‘B’ training prison in Warwickshire.  Richard Stedman, the current deputy director of HMP Rye Hill, will become acting director.

Thompson is set to become director of HMP Altcourse, the Category ‘B’ 1,324-place establishment, after the incumbent Bob McColm signalled his intention to retire next year.  Bob will retire after more than 30 years working in custodial services in both the public and private sector.

Jerry Petherick, Managing Director of G4S Custodial and Detention Services said:

“I am delighted that Dave Thompson is taking the helm at Altcourse and he brings enormous experience from his time at HMP Rye Hill.

“I would like to thank Bob McColm for the work he has done for G4S at HMP Altcourse.  Bob will now lead a project looking at how G4S prisons work with community rehabilitation providers and the national probation service before he retires later in 2015."
