One million protected - and Murray Mount

G4S Events has been at the heart of the UK’s biggest summer events, securing more than a million people over two weeks at some of the country’s largest sport and music set pieces, including thousands of fans at Wimbledon who saw Andy Murray crowned champion

The last weekend in June saw G4S securing the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the British Athletics Diamond League in Birmingham, the Champions Trophy at Edgbaston and the middle weekend of The Championships at Wimbledon. Two thousand G4S employees were on duty to keep these 350,000 sport fans safe and secure.

Wimbledon reached its climax last weekend and G4S was on hand to secure thousands of fans in the grounds and on Murray mount watching Andy Murray’s famous victory. At the same time, G4S was also involved in providing security for the opening weekend of the Barclaycard British Summer Time festival at London’s Hyde Park, which attracted 135,000 people who came to watch rock legends such as the Rolling Stones, fresh from headlining at Glastonbury. G4S also secured another rock legend last week as Bon Jovi played to 50,000 fans at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

With T in the Park, in its twentieth year, beginning this week, G4S’ bumper fortnight continues as security officers are readied to protect 85,000 a day at the four-day festival in Kinross-shire in Scotland.

G4S Managing Director of Events, Eric Alexander, said:

“This really is a fabulous fortnight of events, but it’s also just a snapshot of the summer season of music and sport which G4S is involved in. June was incredibly busy for us and we’ve been able to successfully recruit thousands of staff to ensure that fans from the UK and around the world can enjoy themselves in safety. With temperatures remaining high, thousands of people have been able to kick off their summer in a memorable way – especially with plenty of British sporting success to enjoy.

“Even after the packed schedule of July, we won’t be letting up, as the G4S Events team will be gearing up for The Ashes, then on to the start of the football season in August, and beyond that the busy season of exhibitions and political conferences in the autumn. So while it’s true to say that we’re enjoying a bumper summer, 2013 is already shaping up to be an epic year for G4S Events.”
