Five Wells officially granted HMP status
Following a visit from the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice and Deputy Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP, the category C new build prison - Five Wells - has officially been granted its ‘HMP’ status.
As the UK’s first purpose-built resettlement prison, HMP Five Wells will prepare the men in its care for their transition back into society, providing them with skills and qualifications so they can turn away from crime.
The prison will benefit from the latest design and technology to enhance security and rehabilitation, and it will foster a purposeful environment that reflects life in the wider community.
To provide high-quality academic and vocational learning, the prison will include 16 classrooms and 24 workshops.
We will provide a safe, secure and purposeful environment, ensuring the men receive the right support and opportunities they need to turn their lives around.
The G4S team has committed that all men leaving HMP Five Wells will have a meaningful qualification when they leave the prison.
Director of HMP Five Wells, John McLaughlin said:
“All our operational procedures at Five Wells are designed to best prepare the men in our care for their transition back into society, with opportunities to gain skills and qualifications that will reduce their dependence on crime.
“We will provide a safe, secure and purposeful environment, ensuring the men receive the right support and opportunities they need to turn their lives around.”
HMP Five Wells will invest in the Wellingborough area, working closely with surrounding businesses, suppliers, community groups and charities, to create over 700 new jobs for local residents.
Over 20% of the supply chain partners have been selected from within a 25 mile radius of Wellingborough, to actively contribute to the local economy while minimising transportation costs and the associated impact on the environment.
